April Guest Speaker

Carol Chalmers representing
Toowoomba Parkinsons (Disease)

Support Group

Carol presented a very interesting and informative talk regarding Parkinson’s Disease which included many unknown facts. It is because of these unknow facts that it is often referred to being like an Iceberg. There are some symptoms that can be seen and there’s many other that are under the surface and can’t be see.

Some of the most common and most noticeable symptoms include shaking, expressionless, shuffling, mumbling, decreased voice volume … and much more.

The Toowoomba Parkinson’s Support Group provide various programs to assist those with the disease. Dance classes and Park “n” Songs Choir has proven to be popular and effective.
There is currently no cure for Parkinsons Disease … but with loving support and regular medication / exercise, sufferers can lead a comfortable life.

Lions Medical Research Foundation has announced the recipient of the latest funding round, whose ground-breaking research project aims to enrich our understanding of the underlying biology of complex neurological diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease.

Carol was absolutely thrilled to receive a donation from our Club. This donation will pay for the Group’s meeting room for 6 months.
