Alicia is now Cancer free!!!

Lions High Tea

26 April 2025

Alicia Martin took a slow determined walk on the runway and the applause for her was resounding. It was a victory walk. “My name is Alicia. I’m from Miles, and yesterday I was told I was cancer free”.

This announcement was made at the High Tea hosted by Toowoomba Wilsonton Lions Club. The beneficiaries from this fundraiser were Hope Horizons Cancer Wellness Centre in Toowoomba and the McGrath Foundation.

Both organisations assist patients and their families by providing support and improving the lives of those impacted by cancer. AAnd both organisations also depend on public support and volunteers to provide services to diminish the impact of cancer.

Fashion-on-the-runway proved to be very popular and a little bit of fun with twelve guests “strutting their style” in their own fashions for the event; some as individuals, some as couples.

The winner, and runners up, were pleasantly surprised with a beautiful prize.

It was at the time when Alicia made her announcement of being cancer free.

Both Hope Horizons and McGrath Foundation extend their services, free of charge, to clients with all types of cancer.
With this in mind, the tables were set with flowers and home-made cloth napkins in the colours that represent the different colour cancer ribbons. Our guests kept the napkins as a reminder of the morning, and the support they gave to people, and their families, impacted by cancer.

Our Pretty Table Colours were:
PINK   >   BREAST CANCER
PURPLE   >   BLADDER CANCER
PEACH   >   ENDOMETRIAL CANCER
ORANGE    >   KIDNEY CANCER & LEUKAEMIA

Lion Bernie pleased the event
was such a success.

Lions Club members, family and friends provided a very warm welcome to their 100 plus guests as they entered Newtown Hall for a full morning programme of entertainment. They were welcomed with music, colourful table settings, a glass or two of bubbly, juice, and a delicious morning tea of home-made goodies, tea and coffee.

As the programme progressed, they heard an audio message from the McGrath Foundation, enjoyed the fashion parade of quality pre-loved clothing and accessories, the lucky door ticket, and the all-important multi-draw raffles.
Well-known local singer and entertainer, Cathy Drummond, provided live music, background music and commentary throughout the morning.
